Choosing a Music Teacher

A music teacher is more than an accomplished musician. The right teacher for you is one that is experienced in inspiring and nurturing students of any age.  Music is fun.  It does however require a certain discipline. The right teacher should provide a balance and instill a lifelong love of music.

When seeking a music teacher, arrange an interview or meeting to discuss your expectations and examine if both teacher and pupil are perfectly matched.
Music teachers should be willing and eager to explain their techniques and approach.

It may be important for you to learn what professional and educational experience they have?
How do they participate in ongoing professional development?
How do they evaluate student progress?
What kinds of music is taught?
Do they offer group lessons?
Do they travel?
How much daily practice time is required?

Before commencing music lessons, be sure to contact me to discuss my personalised approach and to answer any questions you may have.

FAQ

Can you tell us a but about your teaching style?

For me, all things music are my passion; I live and breathe it. I’ve provided Sydney students with extensive private teaching services in a number of different fields.
My intention as your bass teacher and music coach is to give you a solid foundation on bass guitar as well as in music theory. This is to enhance your playing ability.

Teaching you how all styles of music use the same elements; rhythm, scales and harmony is my basic approach to early teaching.

Is my first lesson free?

If you're interested in taking bass lessons, I offer a no obligation introductory meeting. It's not a free lesson Burt I'm happy to give you my time so we can get to know each other session rather than a formal lesson. During this time you can fill me in on what your expectations are and you can get a feel for my approach. Play a little for me if you feel comfortable and I'll give you an idea of what we can achieve together. To get started on your lessons contact me for a chat.

Do you offer ADVANCED MUSIC THEORY lessons?

Yes. Knowledge Is Power. Theory is the cornerstone by which lessons are taught. Pupils excel when they know the reasons why. It’s not enough to instruct a pupil to do as I say. There is a strong reason for teaching the theory as well as the practical side of music making. For this reason, theory is taught and nothing is taught for teachers sake. Balance is of strong significance. Check out my iOS application at the Apple App Store to get started on Theory Of Music.

Can you teach all levels of students?

Some students are visual learners and some are purely ear players - they pick up by ear. My bass method is flexible to personalise my approach to your bass guitar lessons. This best fits your abilities and expectations.
And if you use want to learn tunes, best of all you will learn how to play bass guitar while learning your favourite songs. This will make your musical experience fun and enjoyable.

Am I too young or too old for bass guitar lessons?

More than likely not. If you are old enough to take on instruction, I can successfully teach you bass. If a teacher has told you, "your child is too young" or" you are too old to for bass guitar lessons" it's probably a blessing. A teacher who can't teach all ages would not be a good teacher.
I believe that there is no set age to start lessons on bass guitar. It simply depends on the individual.
If you have the discipline, patience and motivation to practice, you can learn to play music.
Learning to play bass guitar is like learning anything else. It will take time and dedication. If you bring that to the lessons then you will succeed.
